Elvis isn't just any pair of jeans. Three years in the making, made from Candiani denim woven in Italy at one of the world's most eco-friendly mills, with a weight of 13 oz (the unit of measurement for denim weight)—compared to the market average of around 11 oz—and crafted by Lamosa in Portugal.
Jeans designed to last deserve to be cared for accordingly. Here's how to take care of them so they age well—and age alongside you.
Rule #1: Wash it as little as possible
Unlike a T-shirt, jeans don't need to be washed after every time you wear them. Denim, especially a dense fabric like Elvis's, retains odors much less than you might think, and each wash slightly wears down the fibers and fades the color.
The rule most denim enthusiasts follow: washing them every 8 to 10 wears is more than enough for normal use. Between washes, air them out (outside, on a hanger—overnight or for a day is enough) rather than putting them in the washing machine.
In fact, this principle doesn't apply only to jeans: a stain-free T-shirt can also be worn several times before washing, as long as you let it air out between wears—whether during the day or at night. By rotating several T-shirts, you can also reduce the frequency of laundry loads.
For your Dark Denim or Medium Denim, spacing out your washes has an added bonus: the fabric will gradually take on the shape of your movements—knees, pockets, waistband—and develop fading patterns unique to your body shape and the way you wear them. That’s what makes a pair of jeans truly one-of-a-kind over time.
The First Wash
If you've chosen Dark Denim or Medium Denim, it's normal for the fabric to give off a slight indigo odor and bleed a little color at first—this is a sign of natural dyeing and not a defect. Before the first wash, wear the jeans at least a few times: this will help develop the first crease lines, especially around the knees.
When you wash it for the first time, wash it by itself or with other dark-colored items to prevent any color transfer to the rest of your laundry.
How to Wash Elvis Properly
Our jeans are pre-washed to ensure that the fit and color hold up well after multiple washes. Here are the recommended care instructions:
- Normal machine wash at 30°C, inside out (turn the jeans inside out before putting them in the washing machine): this protects the surface color and reduces friction on the visible seams
- Do not bleach
- No fabric softener: It clogs the cotton fibers over time and weakens the fabric's strength
- Close the button and fly before washing to prevent the metal hardware from damaging other items in the drum
Drying and Ironing
Air-dry flat or on a wide hanger, in the shade if possible to prevent direct sunlight from causing the fabric to fade.
If ironing is necessary, use a medium ironing temperature (148°C).
A stain? Don't wash the whole pair of jeans
For a small stain, there’s no need to wash the entire pair of jeans in the washing machine. In most cases, simply apply a little lukewarm water and mild soap directly to the stained area and gently rub it with a cloth or soft brush. Let them air dry before wearing them again.
And how do you store it?
Hang it up rather than constantly folding it in the same spot inside a drawer: repeated folding in the same place will eventually weaken the fabric, especially with a fabric as heavy as Elvis's.
In short: the less you wash them, the better Elvis ages. Wash them inside out at 30°C, air-dry them, and have a little patience—exactly the spirit in which they were designed. A pair of jeans for life takes a little effort to earn, but they’ll last a long time.
