There are products that define a brand. For Forlife, Ralph is one of them. Meticulously designed, patiently tested, and embraced by thousands of customers, the Ralph shirt has become, over the years, a true staple of our wardrobe. Since its launch, it has been available in several colors, but two remain unbeatable: white and sky blue. Together, they account for a large portion of our orders. Proof that well-made classics transcend trends.
One story, then another: the origins of the Oxford shirt
Before we even talk about style, we need to talk about fabric. Oxford fabric is unlike any other: it’s recognizable by its slightly textured, grainy appearance. This look is the result of a very specific weaving technique.
The Oxford weave is a type of weave known as "Panama" (or basket weave), in which two warp threads cross over two weft threads. This creates a weave that is more open and more supple than poplin weave, for example. The result is a fabric that is sturdy, breathable, and comfortable, perfect for an everyday shirt.
Another distinctive feature: the Oxford develops a beautiful patina over time. It becomes more supple and softer, while retaining a certain texture that gives it character. That’s what makes it a must-have in any man’s wardrobe for over a century.
Before Ralph, there is the history of the Oxford shirt itself. First appearing in the late 19th century, it was worn by polo players who fastened their collars with buttons to keep them from flapping in the wind. It then became a symbol of the Ivy League stylein the 1950s in the United States.
Simple, comfortable, timeless, the Oxford shirt has stood the test of time, adapting to every style: from preppy to casual chic, from corporate to weekend. A garment that has always straddled the line: serious yet relaxed, dressy but not stuffy.
Ralph, forlife version
When we decided to launch our own Oxford shirt, we set a simple rule for ourselves: to make something better than what we found elsewhere. So we put our trust in our Portuguese partners, with whom we’ve been working for over 10 years.
The fabric is woven at Somelos, a historic company specializing in organic cotton. The garment is sewn at Brunex, a family-run workshop that knows every detail of shirtmaking. The cutwas developed in collaboration with our community, based on their feedback, to achieve the perfect balance : neither too loose nor too tight—and also with the help of our first brand Cuisse de Grenouille , through which we’ve been offering Oxford shirts for 15 years.
And then there are the details : the button-down collar that stays in place, the option to choose with or without a pocket (we’re the only ones to offer it), and sturdy buttons sewn in a herringbone pattern, tailored-style, and the beautiful patina of the organic cotton after several washes.
In short, a shirt that wears well, ages well, and gets better with time.
One shirt, three styles
What makes Ralph a must-have is his versatility. You can wear it in any situation.
