Why does cotton deteriorate so quickly?
Cotton is a natural fiber. That is precisely what makes it comfortable—and what also makes it vulnerable if it isn't cared for properly.
Heat causes the fibers to shrink, distorts collars, and gradually fades colors, especially in darker shades.
Excessive spin-drying
It twists the fibers deeply and creates permanent creases that ironing doesn't always remove.
Tumble-drying
This is cotton’s number one enemy. The heat from the drum significantly and irreversibly accelerates the aging of the fibers.
The good news is that by following a few simple steps, you can largely avoid these problems.
Wash Temperature: The Setting That Makes All the Difference
This is the most important rule—and the one that is most often ignored.
For a cotton T-shirt, we recommend washing at a maximum temperature of 30°C. At higher temperatures, the fibers begin to shrink and the color gradually fades.
For white T-shirts, you can occasionally use a 40°C cycle for a more thorough wash. But not every time.
The Marlon is made from 240 g/m² organic cotton —which is denser than average. This thickness makes it more resistant to repeated washes, provided you wash it at low temperatures.
Spinning and drying: where it all comes down to
Even a well-washed cotton T-shirt can still be damaged if it's spun too vigorously.

Use a gentle spin cycle (600 rpm maximum).

Avoid using the dryer as much as possible. The heat from the drum is cotton's number one enemy.

Dry flat or hang by the shoulder seam—never by the neckline.
Air-drying preserves the shape, softness, and natural elasticity of the fibers. It is the simplest way to significantly extend the life of a T-shirt.
Detergents: Less Is More
Using too much detergent damages the fibers over time and can leave behind residue that makes the fabric stiff.

Use the recommended amount—half is often enough.

Avoid fabric softeners: they leave a film on the fibers and reduce their breathability.

An eco or gentle cycle is more than enough for routine laundry.
