Following our Summer 2023 product survey, over 70% of you were hot for the launch of a seersucker shirt. And we understand you! Breathable thanks to its waffle weave, ultra-comfortable and breathable, seersucker is the winning material of the summer. So here it is:

What is seersucker?

Seersucker is a fabric with a waffle texture, obtained by alternating tight threads and loose threads that give it a wavy appearance. In its most common form, we find the seersucker with blue and white stripes. Light and airy, it's a summer must-have that brings a touch of uniqueness to a classic piece!

Of sugar and milk

Originally from India where it was worn for ceremonial dress by high dignitaries, it is called shir o shekar, translated as "milk and sugar" in Persian, referring to both the sweetness of milk and the crunchiness of sugar.

It is then imported by the British in Europe where it is appreciated during travels in the warm countries of the British Empire. It finally crosses the Atlantic and arrives in the United States in the 19th century where it is first used as workwear before becoming the symbol of the preppy style worn by students of the great American universities.

The ultimate summer fabric

The seersucker is the fabric par excellence of the summer: its weaving allows the skin to breathe even when it is very hot. Indeed, the fabric is embossed, it is less close to the skin and therefore allows air to circulate better. Another advantage: no need to iron it! The embossed aspect of seersucker makes this fabric almost wrinkle-free: practical when traveling in summer!

Seersucker 100% cotton

For our Ben shirt, we chose a 100% cotton seersucker fabric of 155g/m2. Comfortable, light and breathable, it's the perfect fabric for this summer.

An iconic cut

The fit is the same as our Ralph, Hugh & Andrew shirts: tight but comfortable. A cut already validated by thousands of you! Simple to wear on any occasion and easy to match: casual over a t-shirt with jeans, or dressy with our chino shorts, our Ben shirt will accompany you all summer long!

Our product team worked on the finishing touches to bring more sophistication to this iconic piece: our classic button down collar that stays in place, reinforcing swallows on the side and real mother of pearl buttons. With or without a pocket, the choice is yours!

Made in Portugal from A to Z

Because we don't change a winning team, we work with the same trusted workshops as for our Ralph, Hugh & Andrew shirts: the fabric comes from Somelos in Portugal and our shirts are made at Brunex, our partner workshop specialized in shirt making.
